H1N1 VIRUS—Update Regarding Pandemic Flu Planning

If you do not see the flash video object displayed below -- click here

Since May, the H1N1 virus has continued to spread around the globe. The virus has demonstrated to be highly infectious, but with lower than expected mortality rates.

While we do not want to alarm our students, faculty and staff, we need to be prepared for a resurgence of the H1N1 virus this fall. The World Health Organization has ruled the current situation a Phase 6 pandemic, the highest level on the scale. In past pandemics, 30 percent of the population has been infected. If the pandemic reaches a similar infection rate, it will impact our lives and the District in profound ways. YCCD is actively engaged in planning for communication, infection control, continuity of student learning and District operations in response to a pandemic.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has recently issued a communications tool kit for Institutions of Higher Education:

Please be assured that we are working hard to do everything we can to reduce the impact of pandemic on you, your family, our students, and our District.
